Marek Konarski - Polish saxophonist and composer

According to The Guardian (UK) “Konarski is a rising Polish talent”.

 

He is a graduate of the Danish National Academy of Music in Odense, the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, and the Small Jazz Academy in Gorzów Wielkopolski. He currently lectures at the Academy of Music in Poznań

 

A saxophonist known for his warm and deep tone, his improvisations are energetic and lyrical, with clear influences from jazz, Scandinavian music, and Polish folk. He is active on the European music scene, recording albums and collaborating with artists such as Jerry Bergonzi, Adam Bałdych, Tim Hagans, Kathrine Windfeld, Anders Mogensen, and many others. In 2022, his album Konarski & Folks was nominated for the prestigious Polish Music Award – Fryderyk.

 

He has won numerous competitions in Poland and abroad, including Helsinki Jazz Comets, the Blue Note Poznań Competition, the Jazz Debut Album competition organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance, as well as the title of Musician of the Year 2015 on the Danish island of Funen. In 2022, his album Konarski & Folks was nominated for the prestigious Polish Music Award – Fryderyk.

 

For his artistic achievements, he has received the Medal of the 100th Anniversary of Independence from the Prime Minister of Poland, the Honorary Badge for Merits to the Lubuskie Voivodeship, and the Honorary Badge “Merit for Polish Culture” awarded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
